Joe D. Whitley

Section titled “Biography”Joe D. Whitley is an American attorney who co-represented Jeffrey Epstein alongside Kenneth Starr during the 2007–2008 federal prosecution negotiations. He was a partner at Alston & Bird LLP.
Career Background
Section titled “Career Background”Whitley has extensive experience in both government service and private legal practice. His government experience includes service as a federal prosecutor, and he later held positions in homeland security matters.
Connection to Epstein Case
Section titled “Connection to Epstein Case”Whitley co-signed letters to Deputy Attorney General Mark Filip alongside Kenneth Starr, requesting that the Department of Justice conduct an independent review of the proposed federal prosecution of Jeffrey Epstein. The letters argued that the prosecution was unprecedented in its application of federal law and potentially politically motivated.
The letters were sent from Alston & Bird’s Washington, D.C. office to the Office of the Deputy Attorney General.
Joe D. Whitley appears in the Epstein Files as co-counsel with Kenneth Starr on correspondence to the Department of Justice seeking review of the Epstein prosecution.
